Workshop: Basic Practice 2 Shiatsu for Prone Position (Interpreter: English ⇔ Japanese)

2nd Day of the 15th International Shiatsu Conference
Akitomo Kobayashi sensei, former Chairperson of Japan Shiatsu Alumni Association, and Yuji Namikoshi sensei, the Head of the Namikoshi Shiatsu Treatment Centre performed a ‘prone position’ for about 150 people, following ‘Shiatsu for the sitting position’ by Kurosawa sensei and Kaneko sensei’s instruction. The workshop started in a pleasant setting for the participants who have participated since early in the morning.
Along projecting Yuji Namikoshi sensei’s demonstration onto the screen, Kobayashi sensei explained the position with an interpretation by Sandy Woodburn sensei. The participants learned the ‘prone position’ on the special mats had been laid on the entire floor. As if the people were bonded by shiatsu, the impressive scene was well worth the name of the International Shiatsu Conference. It seems like a sprit of a mother’s love by the founder of shiatsu, Tokujiro Namikoshi sensei, handed down to the Canadian soil. The participants learned so many things about shiatsu throughout the day and were deeply impressed by shiatsu.
The conference was closed with a great success.

Akitomo Kobayashi, Shiatsumaster
After graduating from the Japan Shiatsu College in March 1975, he became an instructor at the college. He currently teaches Shiatsu practice. His first overseas conference was the 1st Shiatsu Seminar held in Hawaii in July 1975.Since 2005, he has taught Shiatsu seminars in Italy, Switzerland, France and Bulgaria to promote Shiatsu around the world.
~~ I have a vivid recollection of what Tokujiro Namikoshi sensei said in the conference 32 years ago about "The essence of Shiatsu", that is, "Shiatsu is a therapy that can bond people spiritually". The first step to master the true Shiatsu is to master the basic Shiatsu. At the conference, I will teach the basic technique of "prone position" as easy as possible with the demonstration. I am looking forward to meeting with all of you and bonding spiritually!! Best regards,  Akitomo Kobayashi  ~~

Yuji Namikoshi, Shiatsumaster

He was born in 1965 as the first son of Kazutami Namikoshi. He is the Chairperson of the Japan Shiatsu College and the grandson of Tokujiro Namikoshi, the founder of Shiatsu. After graduating from high school, he enrolled in the Japan Shiatsu College. Since then, his work has focused on the "Basic Shiatsu" treatment. He is currently the Head of the Namikoshi Shiatsu Treatment Centre.
~~ My first visit to Canada was to attend the 5th International Shiatsu Conference in Vancouver with my grandfather. I recall many precious memories such as the seated Shiatsu demonstration to people from all over the world at the Japan House of the International Transportation Exhibition the night before the conference.
My grandfather in heaven will be pleased that I am again attending the Conference in Vancouver as an instructor. I am happy to assist you in any way to better understand Shiatsu, along with the other instructors. I will see you in Vancouver. Best regards,  Yuji Namikoshi  ~~
