2nd Day of the 15th International Shiatsu Conference
A clinical Shiatsu Workshop for Shiatsupractors was held at UBC.  Fumihiko Indei Sensei from Aisen Shiatsu School taught 50 Shiatsupractors from all over the world, giving a lecture and demonstration on frozen shoulder and arms.   All the participants were deeply impressed with his humorous speech and dedicated coaching for practical skills and techniques built on his long experience overseas. His wife assisted by politely translating into English. It was a fruitful worship for participating Shiatsupractors.

Fumihiko Indei,
an International Shiatsu Instructor and the Principal of Aisen Shiatsu School of Hawaii was born in Saitama, Japan. Graduating from the Japan Shiatsu College in 1973, he went on to assist Tokujiro Namikoshi Sensei (Chairman of Japan Shiatsu College at that time) in developing his network of Shiatsu instructors. In 1975, Indei participated in the Shiatsu Shinzen Tour in Vancouver, Canada, after which he endeavoured, unsuccessfully, to introduce Shiatsu treatment to traditional Budo (a martial art) dojos in Japan. Undeterred, he moved to Hawaii in 1975, bringing his knowledge of Shiatsu to a place where it was previously unknown. After he obtained a US massage license he was recognized as an instructor by the Shiatsu Therapeutic Association of America. Then he began to instruct Shiatsu as a non-credit course at the University of Hawaii's Manoa campus and went on to help Tokujiro Namikoshi Sensei, Chairman of the Japan Shiatsu College at the time, develop the network of Shiatsu instructors.

Aisen Chiryo Doin opened in 1977 and later that year, in September, the Aisen Shiatsu School was established. Since then, its graduates number well over 460. The student body is truly international with a diverse population such as Japanese and their descendents, Hawaii, Samoan, African-American and Caucasian. One of the courses offered at the school is a seminar held in co-operation with the University of Hawaii Medical School.
Since 1978 Indei Sensei has participated as a Shiatsu Association of US volunteer at the Honolulu Marathon, the Hale Malamalama Rest Homes and the Kuakini Hospital. Due to his outstanding achievements and reputation many famous Americans and international figures visit him. He became President of Hawaii Saitama Kenjinkai in 1980. In 1987 he received an Award of Merit from the State of Hawaii and in 1998 he was given the Award of Merit by both the State of Hawaii and the City and County of Honolulu. As well he was presented an award by the Cultural Foundation for Promoting the National Costume of Japan for his efforts in popularizing Japanese culture. In 2007 the Aisen Chiryo Doin celebrated its 30th anniversary with Indei sensei dedicating himself to nurturing future Shiatsu practitioners in Hawaii, spurred on by his motto " the popularization of Shiatsu overseas".
